On the morning of November 27, 2023, the grand ceremony for the appointment of two distinguished deans was held in No. 8 Meeting Room of the Academic Conference Center of IMU.

Wu Limin, president of IMU, respectively conferred on Prof. Li Xinqi and Prof. Shi Zhenwei the letter of appointment of the dean of the School of Physical Science and Technology(SPST), IMU and that of the College of Computer Science(College of Software)(CCS), IMU.

Liu Zhiyu, secretary of IMU CPC Committee, welcomed two deans to join IMU. He pointed out in his address that distinguished deans are significant for improving the management of schools and advancing the development of disciplines. Liu said that the appointment of two distinguished deans is a specific move of IMU to further carry out its strategy to develop the university with high-level talents and better its work about “Double-First-Class” construction and co-building of IMU by the autonomous government and the Ministry of Education, and the great change and opportunity in the development of the disciplines of physics and computer science. He hoped that two deans can give full play to what they are strong at and what they are expert in and take aggressive actions in the development of the disciplines concerned, attraction and cultivation of high-level teachers, cultivation of top-notch students, establishment of scientific research platforms, output of high-level research results and international cooperation and exchange to lead the disciplines of computer science and physics to a new high. Liu also stressed that in its work of talents IMU should thoroughly study and implement the elaborations of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on the work of talents, put into practice the national and regional talent policies, substantially better its work of talents and build IMU into a talent-gathering and innovation center.

A brief introduction to Li Xinqi and Shi Zhenwei
Prof. Li Xinqi, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, focuses on the teaching and research in theoretical condensed matter physics and quantum physics. He has published, in top journals of physics like American journal-Physical Review, over 130 articles, citations of which rank among top 1% in China. Four of his articles have been cited over 100 times. The number of his articles ranks among top 1% in the world. Li won the 2nd prize of the National Natural Science Awards(ranking 3rd among 5 authors) . He is the evaluation expert of the major projects and talent programs of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In November, 2023, Prof. Li Xinqi joined IMU as a full-time staff member to act as the dean of SPST.
Prof. Shi Zhenwei, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, focuses on the teaching and research of image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning and artificial intelligence. He has over 260 research articles published or accepted by the academic journals and academic conferences at home and abroad. Of these articles, over 180 are SCI articles and over 100 IEEE articles. Shi has 25 authorized patents for invention. He won the 1st prize of Chinese Institute of Electronics for Technological Invention in 2017. He ranks on the list of top 2% scientists for 2022/2023 which was released by Stanford University. He is meeting evaluation expert of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, expert to compile guide for key research and development programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, member of the Council of China Society of Image and Graphics(CSIG) and director of Publicity Work Committee of CSIG. In November, 2023, Prof. Shi joined IMU to act as dean of CCS.
